SmartPay is a payment option that automatically pays down your balance regularly and on-time, which could help you avoid accruing interest and getting charged a late fee. Instead of making one big payment at the end of your statement cycle, SmartPay makes small payments steadily throughout the month to keep your credit utilization low, which could help you maintain or improve your credit over time.
How it works
Easily set up your SmartPay rules, like Maximum Payment and a Safe To Pay Threshold.
As you use your card, SmartPay makes payments when you have available cash that’s safe to spend based on your rules.
Before making any payments, we’ll give you a heads up, so you stay in control. You can skip or pause these payments.
You have until 7:59 PM ET on the day of the payment to cancel.
If you'd like to cancel a Fallback Payment, you may do so until 7:59PM ET on the day before the payment is scheduled to process.
What are the different SmartPay settings?
Safe To Pay Threshold: To avoid potential overdrafts, SmartPay will not make a payment if your billing account balance is at or below the Safe To Pay Threshold amount.
Maximum Payment: SmartPay will not make a payment over this amount on a given day.
Fallback Payment: In the case that you’re unable to pay the entire statement balance for your card during the statement period—either because your SmartPayments weren’t high enough to cover the balance or because you needed to skip payments—you’ll can select a Fallback Payment Plan to avoid late fees and/or interest. There are three options:
Pay the remaining statement balance
Pay the remaining minimum payment
Do nothing
If you select "Do Nothing", we suggest that you adjust your other SmartPay settings to ensure that your statement balance will be 100% paid down by the end of the statement period.
